Quick Guna Milan — Nakshatra Compatibility Calculator

Guna Milan is the simplified, Nakshatra-based form of Vedic compatibility checking. It requires only the birth Nakshatra (and pada, where available) of both partners — no full birth chart needed. The result is a score out of 36 across the eight Ashta Koota factors, often used as a first-pass screening before commissioning a full Kundli matching report.

The Nakshatra is the key input because seven of the eight Kootas are derived directly or indirectly from it. Moon sign, Moon sign lord, lunar pada, and Nakshatra animal all flow from the same starting point. This is why even a quick Guna Milan can produce usable preliminary insight — though for any final decision, a full chart-based match is always recommended.

Why Nadi and Bhakoot Get Special Attention

Nadi (8 points) and Bhakoot (7 points) together account for 15 of the 36 points — over 40% of the total. A mismatch in either is therefore both numerically and traditionally significant.

Nadi Dosha: Same Nadi between partners traditionally indicates concerns around health and progeny. Cancellation conditions exist — same Moon sign, same Moon sign lord, or strong supportive yogas can neutralize the dosha. Should never be evaluated in isolation.
Bhakoot Dosha: Moon sign distances of 6-8 (Shadashtak), 2-12 (Dwirdwadash), or 5-9 (Navam-Pancham) are flagged. Each has different implications. Bhakoot dosha often cancels when both partners share the same Moon sign lord or when Nadi is favourable.

Limitations of Quick Guna Milan

No Manglik (Mangal Dosha) check — requires Mars's house position in both charts.
No 7th house quality, 7th lord strength, or Venus/Jupiter dignity assessment.
No Dasha alignment for marriage timing — even highly compatible Gunas can struggle if the marriage starts in conflicting Dasha periods.
No longevity (Ayurdaya) check, which traditional matching always includes.
